Scott Yard’s 24 Steps to a Big Squat and Deadlift!

Scott Yard is a multi-dimensional strength athlete having once owned the all-time highest powerlifting total in the multi-ply equipped 275 lbs weight class and currently being a top ranked raw lifter in the same class.

24 Weekly Steps to a Bigger Squat and Deadlift

I feel that many trainees make a mistake when planning for a bigger squat and or deadlift.  They follow the usual template of an incremental squat cycle followed by countless sets of rack pulls, good mornings, glute-ham raises, and then the obligatory 3 sets of abs to finish the workout.

The mistake lies in insufficient emphasis on their abs and obliques.  My solution is the inclusion of 2 workouts per week which include 12 sets each for the abs and obliques (hence the 24 steps name of this article J).  It worked wonders for me personally.  I spent years stuck at a respectable 700 lbs deadlift, but when I incorporated my 24 steps program I shot up to the mid 700s in less than a year (which at that level is a nice gain).

Focus on your abs and obliques and watch the PRs roll in!
