When we created Opticen our goal was to make it the pinnacle in post-workout (PWO) supplementation as well as an effective meal replacement formula. After many hours of exhaustive research we arrived at a formula which we feel makes Opticen #1 in both categories by a LARGE margin.
What Makes Opticen so Effective?
Hard training places the body in a net negative protein balance and simultaneously depletes intramuscular glycogen stores both during and immediately after the exercise session. In order for the body to recover and supercompensate this catabolic state must be quickly reversed.
Research has shown repeatedly that consumption of a combination of protein and carbohydrates immediately after training stimulates increased protein synthesis (building or rebuilding muscle tissue) and or reduced protein degradation (a breakdown of muscle tissue) and improves replenishment of muscle glycogen.
Here is how it works:
- Carbohydrate intake spikes blood sugar levels thus causing the body to release insulin. Insulin either is active in permitting increased protein synthesis, blunting protein degradation, or both. Science is still not entirely clear on the matter as some studies have demonstrated one or the other effect, and others both. What is clear is that insulin promotes an overall net positive protein balance and thus potentially an anabolic state (1).
- Carbohydrate intake promotes greater glycogen resynthesis during recovery.
- The amino acids from the protein work synergistically with the insulin to further enhance the net positive protein state. Insulin’s enhancement of protein synthesis seems to be limited by the availability of amino acids, so without the concurrent ingestion of protein and carbohydrates enhanced protein synthesis/reduced degradation is significantly blunted (1).

What Sets Opticen Apart?
Most PWO supplements consist of just protein and carbohydrates. While this is a proven formula as stated above, it is not optimal. Studies have shown that the ingestion of a protein and carbohydrate beverage PWO can suppress circulating testosterone (2). The importance of testosterone to the resistance trained individual is common knowledge.
Dietary fats are proven to support circulating testosterone levels. Their inclusion in Opticen allows for total hormonal support. Contrary to popular belief, fats in a PWO supplement will not impair the effects of protein and carbohydrate ingestion. To the contrary, studies have shown that a complete meal PWO (to include fats) is the most effective PWO combination possible.
Opticen’s protein blend promotes enhanced net retention (which means more amino acids are available to your muscles for growth) via the inclusion of varying forms of protein which have different absorption rates thus providing for a time release effect.
The Opticen protein complex consists of ultrafiltrated whey protein concentrate, isolated casein peptides, total milk protein isolates, whey protein isolates, glutamine peptides, and instantized egg albumin.
Each serving of Opticen provides 40g of the highest quality protein, 35g of glycogen replenishing carbohydrates, 8g of hormone supporting fats, and a myriad of vitamins and minerals to foster optimized PWO recovery and provide for a high quality liquid meal!

" Opticen, best supplement on the planet!"

"Opticen is one of the most easily mixed MRP's I've found, and the taste is spectacular"
I thought I'd drop you a note to comment on your Opticen MRP product. I have been thoroughly impressed! As a full time graduate student and personal trainer, I find myself constantly on the run. Having time to secure proper nutrition to fuel my own training and growth is often a struggle. Your Opticen has made that much easier. It is one of the most easily mixed MRP's I've found, and the taste is spectacular. Drinking one is a treat for me!
As a graduate student in Exercise Physiology, nutrition is very interesting to me from a vocational/academic point of view, and I very much like the ingredient list you've compiled. Your protein blend is excellent and you don't go overboard with carb quantity, also maintaining the quality of maltodextrin.
I'm recommending Opticen to all of my busy friends and athletes!

"Chocolate Opticen takes the cake"
The chocolate Opticen tastes better, has a better texture and is more filling than any other MRP I have tasted. It beats Slimfast, Atkin's and just about any meal replacement shake I have encountered. I like the vanilla Nitrean but this chocolate Opticen takes the cake. Very tasty. Good job guys!
